The intent of this project was to develop new tools and methodologies through an open innovation consortium to provide a novel process to guide the design and selection of paediatric formulations and to enable assessment of their acceptability quickly.

The project commenced in July 2014 and has achieved its objectives. The output will provide novel predictive analytical and in silico tools that will contribute to a smarter route to developing age-appropriate and acceptable children’s medicines.  These tools will provide potential benefits for speed, cost and quality in paediatric formulation development whilst contributing to a greater probability of regulatory and technical success in an increasingly challenging environment.

The project has successfully bought together expertise in paediatric formulation development from the largest pharmaceutical companies in the UK, specialist CMO /SME’s and academic experts who have worked collaboratively and openly to ensure that the project met its targets.
